i know we have already been over this. but orange chocolate chip muffins are amazing. this time im not apologizing luke.

i’ve been thinking about people who over spiritualize things lately. i know that “everything is spiritual” but you know what i mean.

i’ve heard the phrase “too heavenly minded to do any earthly good”. i think these sorts of people freak normal people out.

CARRYING A CROSS! YOUTH RALLIES! PRAYER WALKS! ALL DAY FASTS!

all of these are fine i suppose, it’s just that when you push them in people’s faces… it is strange. especially if those people don’t believe in the same god you do. when we’re instructed to be “set apart” i don’t think that means “be weird”. i think it means “be very relevant to what the world around you is doing, minus the selfishness”

we talked in class today about how much culture shapes who we are, and how we need to be sensitive to that when talking to people.

religion is shaped by culture (Deut 16; Lev 23). what religion you are is shaped by your culture, so attacking someone’s religion, is really attacking alot more of who they are than just religion. you’re formative years creative very ingrained worldviews and mindsets, this is important when considering why people think the way they do, and also that you think the way you do, because you were brought up to think that way.

we talked about people with premodern mindsets, they possess characteristics like being dogmatic, uncritical, and have little awareness of social effects on belief.

first of all, i have a hard time loving people like this. second of all, that is no way to share good news with people. with an almost blatant disregard for who they are and where they came from.

i dont know… i think stuff like this is interesting and really important.

bottomline is… i don’t know if the whole “jesus freak” thing is as great as some people might claim it to be.
